Tahlil or Tahlilan

بسم الله ارحمن ارحيم

What is tahlil and tahlilan?

Tahlilan
Tahlil or Tahlilan

Tahlil is a reading lailahaillallah, in Arabic we write such as لا إله إلا الله . The meaning of tahlil itself is a kind of monotheism sentence. While tahlilan is a kind of activity which somebody or people is saying lailahaillallah for many times or continuously. In conclusion, tahlil is a reading lailahaillah, while tahlilan is an activity of tahlil

For tahlil, it is commonly uttered after prayer (sholat). It is part of sunah (kind of prophet Muhammad activity in the past. Somebody or people may do or don't, but it's better to do). Besides, we also know about tasbih "سبحان الله " and tahmid "الحمدلله"which are reading after prayer (sholat).

While, today people know tahlilan is kind of activity which people come to house's person to another but what they read is not tahlil itself. It because tahlil itself is a reading lailahaillah. It's should even better called as recitation, not tahlilan.

People cannot judge tahlil as a bid'ah. In term of language bid'ah is something held or new added,  while in terms of syarak which is something created by humans, both in the form of words and deeds in matters of religion and pillars that are not taken from the Prophet or his friend.
